Moxie with nothing to do

Boy, I got up off that chair for 2 seconds and Moxie just decides to take over.

“Allright, well I guess I made it up here, time to make myself at home.”

St. Patty’s Lamb and Eggplant Shepherd’s Pie

I cooked this dish from Bon Appetit today for St. Patrick’s Day.   Our neighbor Mary also baked some Irish soda bread and brought us over a big chunk of it, yum!

After sauteing the eggplant.

The lamb then got a good dose of coarse salt and pepper then tossed with flour.  Then it was browned in olive oil.  Of course, Moxie got her share of fresh raw lamb and she loved it!

Here is everything simmering including onions, tomatoes, and lots of garlic.  The bottom of the pot was deglazed with a nice Veramonte Chardonnay.

Here is Mary’s soda bread with a 2005 Bordeaux (Chateau Poitevin Cru Bourgeois Medoc) that we had along with the Shepherd’s Pie.  A layer of mashed potatoes went over the top then got baked in the oven.

Our weekend in Minnesota

Katie’s Dad had his retirement party this past weekend.  It was great to see some of his coworkers that he had worked with for a long time and to just hang out with the whole family.  Here are a few pics from the weekend.

Then a quick trip back home to Massachusetts, but before we left we got to spend some time with Dave, Sarah, and Oscar at IHOP!

Moxie found a new spot.

Looks like Moxie found a nice new place to sleep during the day.

Moxie just got spayed yesterday.  She seems to be recovering alright, slowly getting her appetite back. :)

Walk-in closet Part 2

I finished one side of the walk in closet today!  There is one shelf for each side down in the basement, but I don’t think we will need them.  I got a really good deal on the birch cabinet grade plywood at Home Depot.  I used birch veneer banding and a light walnut oil stain from Varathane.  After that was the water based urethane from Minwax in a gloss finish.

I used no glue instead opting for pocket hole joinery.  Basically, you drill a hole with a special jig set to a certain depth in the angled template(the blue thing) that is clamped down down to the wood.  You can then screw two pieces of wood together and hide the screws.  You are making a pocket for the screw to slip into.  Here I am drilling some holes.
