The square is complete!
22. February 2009 by admin.
Well, we’ve finished the painting on the entire downstairs (except the porch). We used Benjamin Moore “Iced Marble” for the foyer, stairs, and upstairs hallway. I did quite a bit of repairwork here and there as you can see in the pics. Once we cleaned the old chandelier, I think we’ll actually keep it!
Allright here is the work done before painting. The ceiling in the foyer ended up having quite a bit of detached paint from the plaster that just peeled right off with my scraper. No water damage, just paint that was probably applied at the same time they were still making Model T Ford cars. Anyway, there was also a crack in the plaster and it was detatching from the wood lathe behind the plaster that holds it to the ceiling joists. I used plaster buttons to re-secure the plaster and then applied self=adhesive fiberglass tape over the buttons. Then, a few coats of joint compound, a coat of primer, some ceiling paint, and it looks brand new. :) I also had to reconstruct the ceiling edge going into the stairway, it was in really rough shape.

Here we are with the ceiling painted and one wall finished with Iced Marble

Needless to say, painting the stairwell was not fun. I had to get a new multi-use ladder that could swing up into an extension ladder to reach to the top.

Here are some finished pics of the project.
